I'll look into the restoring and saving instances with Bundles of different data type information and see if I can use that to update the views of my data. If it was only a visual that I cared about i'd probably just use a bitmap image of the map on the screen and then redraw that bitmap, but the overlays need to contain information in them when interacted with to relay data back to the user.
