Thanks, for the clarification. So I will try to get a Nexus One. I
wasn't sure if a google developer phone is needed, but since I'm
currently not planning to modify the OS itself I should be fine even
if I can't get a Nexus One.

Is there an easy way to remove the custom HTC GUI elements? I think I
read this somewhere. Properly just deinstalling the apk files?

I already used the emulator quite a lot. But the software rendering is
just really slow on my machine. I have to use real hardware to see if
the performance of the app is ok.
