Android offers two location services: GPS & "Network" (mobile cell).
The developer can choose to register to receive location updates for one or both of these. You have raised a question I was wondering about though - does the network location use WiFi to increase accuraccy? I have noticed I sometimes get pretty good accuraccies (~75m) from network location. Cheers, ~redders.
