What steps are required to show this as a valid meeting request to a
recipient?

I have tried the following two approaches but not been successful as
yet:

-> set email header type to multipart/alternative

approach 1.
- pass the icalendar text as part of the email body and change it's
content type as follows:
Content-Type: text/calendar; charset="utf-8"; method=REQUEST
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

Result: It appears as text when the user reads the email.

approach 2
- write this text to a file, and attach it as a .ics file
- change mime type of attachment to text/calendar

Result: I get the attachment with email but it does not appear as a
meeting request
