Cache your updates. Sync the next time there's a network connection. IOW, operate under the assumption that the Calendar API isn't available on-device, and design your app accordingly. I know, it's not how the unpublished API has been working, but it is how many other APIs do work, and devs create useful apps for them nonetheless.
