Just came across this thread while researching something else... Don't
know if it's still an issue, but there are 2 ways that I know of to
hide a directory from the stock Gallery:

- Include a file named ".nomedia" in the directory
- Preface the directory name with a period (such as /.myimages); this
follows the usual *nix convention for hidden files
