Well, one of the biggest issues for me is that I actually want to _use_ the new features live on my G1 right away, rather than waiting for a future OS revision. And there seem to be a fair number of other G1 users who'd like to use the new features / bugfixes / new crashing bugs I've added. For very understandable reasons, it's not possible for third-party apps to replace core Android applications. What is the right way to create a variant of Email that regular users can get onto their devices today and have the best chance of feeding back changes to the core client?
Just to see how things work, I went ahead and released a rebadged mail client (K-9 Mail) to the Marketplace last night. The source is up at http://code.google.com/p/k9mail I'm sure my code is awful. This is the first time I've touched Java in a decade. Justin, I'd be thrilled to figure out a way to contribute my changes to mainline (especially if I can get pointers about why the way I'm doing things is Just Wrong) if there's a way for me to release experimental builds to the Marketplace for users to install. I've already signed a CLA and am happy to jump through whatever hoops I need to to get changes pushed upstream. -Jesse --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
