First, forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this. I can't find any real support forums for the G1 or Android OS anywhere. T- Mobile won't do anything about this problem since it's at the OS level and not one of their own applications.
Long Explanation: I have many business contacts as well as personal contacts. On my business contacts, I leave the "Name" field blank and instead use the "Company" field because this is the standard way of handling things on vCards (which I use daily), in Outlook, and in other mail programs. The standard behavior for these things is to display the Company when no Name is available. This works fine in Gmail on a full web browser. (as shown in the image linked below) The problem begins when you move to the G1 and Android OS. Gmail and Gmail Mobile, as well as the built in Contacts application fail to fall back to Company when no Name is available. In addition, I also cannot search my Contacts by Company since the app never looks at the Company field. This is broken behavior, so I'm posting this in hopes of a quick patch from the Android and Gmail teams.
