Write a better instant messaging client, either by:

-- improving the one that is there,

-- forking the one that is there (a la K9 for email), or

-- building one from scratch

Note that what you consider a bug (AIM logging out) others might 
consider a feature (AIM doesn't drain the battery, AIM doesn't drain the 
bandwidth in the data plan, etc.). However, that's still a matter of 
fixing up the IM client to have options for controlling the IM client 
behavior.
