I did a lot of searching on this topic some months before the G1 release, and found a lot of people agreeing with me but nobody knowing what was really going on... so, since it's the new year, I figured I'd ask again - has/will there been any headway on getting other languages (specifically c/c++ and ruby/python) to work natively on Android? I understand all the reasons for using java atop of dalvik, but I don't think any of them are sufficient for disallowing the developer & end- user the freedom to run apps written in different languages. I know the source code was (finally!) released shortly before the G1 launch, so I'm assuming if Google isn't working on this, somebody else is? Any word, or is there some place I should go to get info about this?
