My interpretation of the Android distribution agreement is that if you
release an application and you say it is free you may not charge for
the same application at a later date. But if you release an
application and make it known that the application is a limited
version then there should be no problem in releasing a different
version at a later date that costs money.

I have 4 apps on the market. 2 free, 1 lite, and 1 trial (with a time
bomb). In my experiences some users do not like the "Lite" or "Trial"
apps and will give you a low rating. My "Lite" application
(BreakTheBlocks Lite) definitely gets more downlaods than my "Trial"
application (WordWrench Trial).

If you do decided to release a limited functionality version of the
application for free and plan to charge for a "full" version of the
applcaition once the paid apps market opens then I would suggest that
you make that clear in the app listing on the market by calling it
"Appname Lite" or "Appname Trial" and include a small disclaimer in
the app description.

I fully expect to run into issues when the paid apps are released, at
the very least I imagine I will need to change the package name for
the paid version of the app and that might pose a small problem. I
just hope there will be a simple way to manage the 2 versions from the
same source tree so all I would have to do is change a constant
variable and recompile the apk.
