Hi,

Don't try this at home.

A few days ago my wife undertook a bit of unintended destructive
testing with my G1, putting it in the washing machine.

I discovered this after it had been in the machine for 40 minutes and
retrieved it during the last rinse cycle. ( Only cold water was
used ).

When the phone went into the washing machine it was switched on and
had about 80% battery charge.

Recovery involved removing back cover, battery and sim card. The lens
cover was cracked and the usb cover ripped off. I the drained water
and mopped up with paper towel. The water inside the screen sloshed
back and forth when tilted in a cute bezier curve manner.

I left the handset by a sunny window for 2 days until the water seemed
to have evaporated and reassembled it 36 hours after immersion.

I was completely astonished to find that the phone booted up OK ! and
all functions appeared to be working, I thought it was dead for sure.

Lasting problems appear to be badly water stained screen, dead
microphone and some ocassionally sticking keys, but apart from that
all functions seem ok, including touchscreen, gps, camera, speaker,
wifi etc. The hands free still works as a microphone so the phone is
not permanently mute..

So thank you Google and HTC for making such a rugged combination of
software and hardware !

I put some pictures here -

PS Only 1 robot was slightly harmed during these tests.
