It's an emerging technology in telephone numbering. The idea is to be
able to use a person's telephone number to identify reach her on voice/
SMS/Location/Presence etc based on her 'ENUM' settings in the cloud.
Look up http://www.enum.org/what.html for a quick read. ENUM optimizes
call/service routing over IP and saves interconnection charges and
substantial CAPEX investments for telecom operators. For the end user,
the benefit is that one doesn't have to remember their buddies' myriad
IDs (skype/IM/web address) to reach, all you need is their telephone
number. Also, the biz rules can be configured on the cloud as to when
a TN maps to an IM vs a Voice mail vs a whatever. Also, provides for a
way to look up future IMS services against the TN.
