What I am looking for is actual numbers from Google as to size and
extent of marketplace activity etc.
This forms a valid basis for guesstimates to calculate the potential
earnings of an app.,
and that would help persuade a businessman whether to enter the
market.
Simply counting the downloads from each app counter is faulty because
it is reset every time an app is updated.
This info should not be secret. For the iphone App store, it is
released by Apple as part of their news releases - for example, " 1.7
million downloads in the last month". see this list back from July
2008
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/10/iphone-app-store-the-early-list-of-top-downloads/
Also, you can browse the iphone app store from your computer,
http://www.apple.com/iphone/appstore/.
But I cannot browse the Android Marketplace without a G1 phone.
Don't get me wrong - I want Android to succeed (lost too much as a
result of Android) - but it is reasonable to expect basic information
like this.
