I've done quite a bit of windows mobile programming for my day job. The compact framework and Visual Studio 2008 are really nice to work with. The big problem is that most devices out there in the field only have CF2.0. So you either stick with the slightly outdated stuff (a pain if you want to share code with any desktop apps) or you have to deploy the CF3.5 redistributables with you app.
