This depends on the capabilities of your router. It *MUST* be able to connect to an ad-hoc network. I find it unlikely that this will be possible.
I suggest that you ditch the router, get yourself a cheap used/old laptop or other x86-compatible system with a wifi card (802.11b or g) and a network plug. Install your favorite linux distro on it. Setup BIND (dns server, sometimes called named) and dhcpd, and use iptables rules to setup for NAT, i.e. http://www.revsys.com/writings/quicktips/nat.html With this done, the laptop essentially becomes a much stronger version of your router. You can plug another computer into the network plug on the laptop to access the net via your phone.
