I don't know how much you have looked, but there is a lot of work being done on android. For example, there is ongoing work to get a NDK so you will be able to include native .so files in the apk but there is no date yet when it will be done. Google have done a lot of work and should get credit for it, i am still waiting for other OHA members to take some action but they are probably busy creating their code behind close doors at the moment. Remember that android is still young as a mobile plattform.
