While I used tinderbox in the subject line, that's because I always liked that name. That doesn't mean we'd have to use that specific tool. I am planning on experimenting with CruiseControl.rb. Automated checkout-build-report stuff already exists. It's mostly a question of getting Android to work with the tool (e.g., teaching the tool about repo) and figuring out the best approach to supporting a bunch of people running this sort of stuff and amassing the results. > I'm not very familliar with the logisitcal process involved in > tinderboxing I'm no expert, either. > ... would individuals run builds locally, then post > results and platform details to some central repository? That's the way classic tinderbox worked. On the other hand, classic tinderbox doesn't exactly look terribly friendly to set up, which is why I was musing on how to do this with something more like CruiseControl or CruiseControl.rb. > Would we need to document a standard format for tracking platform > details like library versions and such, and a parser to highlight what > changes might be breaking builds? That's a question of sophistication and what abilities we can get from off-the-shelf products, AFAICT. > I may not have much time or skill, but I am very interested... I would recommend researching tinderbox-style tools, like CruiseControl/CruiseControl.rb, and see if you see major pluses or minuses. I'll be doing the same, though not until later in the month. After some experimentation, if we can settle on a baseline build manager, we can figure out result aggregation and all that fun stuff. I am certainly up for other suggestions, though, if anyone has better ideas. Like I said, I'm no expert at this. -- Mark Murphy (a Commons Guy) http://commonsware.com | http://twitter.com/commonsguy Android App Developer Training: http://commonsware.com/training.html --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
