I think birth of a new industry is rather an exagerration, it's not
like embedded device software is anything new, it just has a larger
market now. Also a few apps sell well on the app stores, but many do
not. Many apps have actually lost money on the app stores, but there
are a few spectacular success stories. It seems like the press is bit
I-Phone centric in general, due to the great success of Apple's
propoganda machine.
