This is exactly why translation is so poor in the software world, many English-speaking companies disregard translating their applications as "not profitable". A company I once worked for did a French translation of their software to reach a sale, using Babelfish. Needless to say the client translated it themselves soon after.
It's a shame translations are so expensive, it would be great to see the Android platform embrace community-led translations similar to how Ubuntu does it with Launchpad.
