I usually update my app weekly (when I have pending bug fixes) or bi-weekly. When I get bug reports within hours after the update I usually fix the bugs and release a new version right away. So that the people that haven't upgraded yet get the fixed version right away and only the early people have to suffer through another update. After ca. 24 hours I will not release new version until a bug is really serious. I want to prevent people getting annoyed by updates. This approach seems to work great with the changed Android Market approach. I release a new version last Sunday and was listed as an updated app. Three hours later I released another version with a bug fix and was not listed at the top of the changed apps again. So there seems to be a time window in which another update doesn't count again as a reason to get to the top of the list.
Of course, it's the Android Market, so there is no hard information on anything and we have to speculate how long this window for updates is.
