It'll be interesting to see if the Magic outsells the G1 in a "percentage of
customers" basis in the regions where they're both available.

I thought carrier would be the main differentiator. Isn't the iPhone
SIM-locked to O2, and the HTC Magic SIM-locked to Vodafone?

On a completely level playing field, with a consumer with no preconceptions
or particular vested interests, the iPhone is probably a superior answer
today than is an HTC Magic. More apps, more storage, more polish (perceived
and actual).

The fact that the playing field is not level (e.g., SIM-locks, exclusivity
deals), and the fact that consumers have preconceptions and vested
interests, means that the HTC Magic will sell. It probably will not out-sell
iPhone, but it probably does not need to in order to be deemed successful by
the carriers and HTC.
