Yep, I like the scoring comment concept too. That may solve some of
the issues I have seen.

Showing development activity is also a good idea, and is probably
started by the "last update date" but I would definitively like to see
some king of color index showing how much updates the app is getting
(green meaning the app is updated quite often, orange for not so often
and red for not updated since a while).

All in all, dont forget that the purpose of the Android Market is
obviously to enable users to get free and paid applications (with good
quality) thru

1- promoting the most downloaded ones
2- promoting new ones
3- promoting the "best" ones (there can be many criteria to define
what is "best": raw best user score or best user score pondered by the
number of downloads...)

As far as I know, right now the Android Market is ok for item #1, but
item #2 is just so so and item #3 is non existing.

I can see also that the Android Market is pushing the "most
downloaded" apps and thus applications that have been release since
the beginning (and that does not mean that they were of good quality).
The newcomers have then much more difficulties to "make their hole"
even if they are pushing better quality applications. The "Darwinian"
process that should eliminate bad/poor quality applications is
obviously not working and in some extent is hurting the whole Android
Platform: why would a new user buy a new phone with Android is the
applications that are running on it are of poor quality compared to
the other phones on the market ?

Right now, for paid applications, the Android Market is also doing
quite a bad job at enabling users to choose: this poor 325 char
description is just a wall preventing them to buy (sure I know that I
can publish a free limited app showing what the paid app is doing,
but this is not always possible).
