First, let me just say I think Android is great and as a whole I'm very happy Google has jumped into the OS world. I truly hope and expect that in years to come Android will become a serious player in the mobile OS world. Possibly the main player if the right choices are made.
This brings me to my point... How are these descisions being made? >From an outsider looking in it seems that Google has an unusual company structure, one which is both positive in its creative freedom and negative in its apparent rudderless desicsion making. I'm an early adopter of Android and knew I would essentialy be a beta tester. Anyway I'm a positive lad and would like to offer a simple suggestion. This 20% time is all very well and I do marvel at the amazing apps and clever features that are deing developed by allowing people creative freedom...however. You're now in a heads up battle wether you like it or not, if Android is to be the OS of choice it needs to be the best and it can only be so if the development is lead by sensible descision making. Case in point. Let's take the music player in Android. Now I'll be as diplomatic as possible...it's crap. No argument is possible on this. The staggering part is I just downloaded Sky Map and am stunned at the complex tech we can all now enjoy...so how on Earth did anybody begin working on such an egocentric and highly irrelevant app for the greater volume of customers prior to somebody actually polishing the UI on the music player or God forbid...adding a graphic equalizer. Now this probably seems like a moan...I guess it is. Here's my idea. Take everybody: and I mean everybody on all of the ecentric 20% projects for just four weeks and get all of the core Android funtions looking and functioning better than any of your competitors could ever dream of. Once this is done then start working on GPS linked accelerator controlled temperture readings of Mars's underground alien water systems. It really is staggering that the simple stuff is not being sorted quickly. So please pass this post on to the right person, if that person is the head of Google. Even better. These are simple choices that need to be made asap, why it's not happening I can only imagine. I'm certain I could do a better job...and will happily prove it. Try me :) Anyway, what has been done is fantastic. Keep it up. Yours truly Ketzal Sterling Android fan PS please excuse the spelling mistakes as I wrote this on my G1 to demonstrate another point. No spell check in here...crazy. We've got Latitude but no spell check in most txt boxes. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
