An extra expense of $1,000,000 grand prize could only take away market share of arch rival operating systems.
My first exaggerated estimate of market share taken away from competing operating systems would be 1000 times the added contest expense. After checking http://www68.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=microsoft+google, the effect could easily be even greater. The timing for Android is right to make a dent in the operating system market and become more than the latest greatest thing. I'm willing to bet that if the device production supply could handle the promotional event, even higher contest prize amounts would be in order. Estimates of 18-20 new Android devices by the end of ADC2 make Android devices a very hot market in tough times. If those in control of ADC2 don't put pressure on management to extend ADC2 and make it an annual promotional event, ADC2 will be a great employee recruitment drive.
