This would be up to the individual manufacturers. BTW: the whole "G1", "G1v2", "G2" is provider-branding and has nothing at all to do with the actual devices. The "Dream" and "Magic" are devices manufactured by HTC, the "Bigfoot" appears to be an upcoming device to be manufactured by Samsung. I'm sure you can see how a device manufactured by Samsung cannot be a "v2" of a completely different device manufactured by HTC... those designations are therefore completely irrelevant.
