Note: I originally posted this in the developers forum but now I think
this is probably a more appropriate place for this topic.

My question basically is why are there no native international input
soft keyboards in Android 1.5r2? I tested this in the emulator by
changing my Locale to Chinese. I got all the text in Chinese just as
expected. Then I clicked on the google search box expecting a Chinese
keyboard to appear but only the English keyboard appeared. I tried
changing my locale to different languages like korean and Japanese and
still the English keyboard keeps showing up.

Am I doing something wrong or am I just plain stupid? Please somebody
tell me (only if I'm doing something wrong). Has anybody been able to
get keyboards in other languages to work? They are selling this phones
in other countries right? How are they supporting input in other
languages like Chinese, Japanese, German, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.
etc.?

This is bad, really bad. I need to write an app that allows a user to
enter text in multiple languages.

And please don't tell me that I can implement my own keyboard. There
is no freaking way I'm implementing 50 different keyboards. It would
just be plain stupid. This is something that has to be supported
natively.

I know, there are some third party keyboards out there but I think it
is a really bad idea to ask the user to go searching the web out there
for some 50 keyboards. And having a dependency on another developer is
just a bad idea.
