I'm aware of some level of forward-locking going on. I think that the core of the logic is in DrmProvider. There's a bit of extra code in DownloadProvider to recognize the specific DRM MIME type and pass it around to the DrmProvider. I assume that there's a bit of DRM-related code somewhere to tie the apps that are authorized to use protected files with the actual files, but I don't know any details there.
