After dealing with some continued annoyances with the native Gmail app on my G1, I decided to voice them to this android community to see what recommendations others might have to make things a little closer to Gmail's web counterpart. The three biggest shortcomings of the current app, as I see it, are:
1. Inability to select the return email - on the web platform, you are able to send emails from any alias that you have associated with your account ( [email protected], [email protected], etc.). I have two work emails and two personal email addresses that I maintain through my main account, but can only send through the one account that is actually synced with my g1. The same issue applies for replying to emails sent to those accounts. I will receive an email sent to [email protected], for example, but am forced to reply through [email protected]. anyone find a way to change or override the default? 2. No color labels - As with most Gmail users, I have spent considerable time creating filters so that almost every email I receive has those great color labels to easily differentiate email types (Yellow for work, red for urgent, green for android updates like this one =D, etc.), but the native g1 app only supports the standard blue. The calendar already syncs different calendar colors, but is there a way to make this happen with Gmail labels as well? 3. The creation of labels and / or filters - it would also be great to be able to create new labels on the run if the need calls for it, and recognize certain types of email that we want to filter directly from the handset. This is further down the line in terms of priorities, but would be nice nonetheless. I am currently running Cyanogen's 3.4.X ROM, but would be willing to refresh to a different build if a programmer has already fixed some or all of these faults. Any recommendations?
