I think the issue is really that such functionality doesn't exist on the client (e.g. the standard and popular media players don't track playcounts or produce any similar metadata. I've toyed with the idea of consuming the last.fm playcounts (since scribbling tools do exist on the platform), but haven't chased it too far.
