Google does not freely distribute their Market to OEMs and so those OEMs have to look to alternative application directories to ship on their devices.
Al. P.S. There's nothing official or unofficial about any application directory, they're just provided by various companies. -- * Written an Android App? - List it at http://andappstore.com/ * ====== Funky Android Limited is registered in England & Wales with the company number 6741909. Forgive me asking this , but what's the purpose of those unofficial app stores ? Isn't Market sufficient for app distribution ? I mean Google will eventually update their Market to add something like Top Paid/Top Free , and end users won't bother themselves looking for alternative store, they will just use the already pre-installed Market. This is the first step in a process that should help developers get their apps redistributed as widely as possible and we hope that developers will support us by giving permission for us to redistribute their application information and apks we host to other market providers. We've already received some interest from other parties about this so we needed a way to make sure that developers are happy for us to do it. If you have an app listed and you want to make it available you'll need to go to the "My submissions" menu option, click on the app, click the "[Edit App Details]" link, tick the checkbox near the bottom of the page, and then click "Store Details".
