if you are rooted you can open the terminal and type su logcat -help
to show a list of logcat commands, to save the file i think its logcat -c "filename" or something I use eclipse and the sdk to view the logcat, which is much easier and color codes and you can copy lines out of it, but if you don't have eclipse set up its a lot to go through to explain how but you can visit the android sdk site for detailed instructions on how to it all working.
