Well, seeing as all the 'droid hardware has thus far come from the
same manufacturer (HTC), who uses that same chip in just about *ALL*
their devices, and the fact that all the 'droid hardware they have
produced to date (DREAM, MAGIC, HERO) have just been different
packaging of virtually the identical hardware (READ: looks different
but is actually the same, save from more or less memory/flash), it is
not much of a surprise that they all have the same CPU, which BTW is
MSM7200/7201.

Now you start adding in different manufacturers, you have mentioned
motorola and sony, and you are bound to get different hardware, which
is why you are seeing different CPUs.

FYI: the core platform is Linux, which supports just about every
processor ever conceived. There is some work required to get the whole
of android running on a different CPU, but it is relatively quite
little.
