In some instances this would make sense - for example, if you have setup other mail accounts to use your carriers SMTP relay. You can only connect via 3G, I noticed that when a wireless connection kicks in, which is pretty much most of the time, I can't send mail using my carrier, because the wifi connection supersede it, and my carrier will only accpt connections via thier dataplan. I got wifi at home, and at work, so unless I set up multiple accounts, which all use diffrent settings, I'm SOL! :)
