I'm afraid that's life, and yes, it can be unfair.

At the end of the day getting any updates beyond bug fixes is  
something to be grateful for (instead of just expecting it) because if  
you're device works as advertised then the OEM/carrier has no real  
obligation to update it.

The last I saw from HTC on the issue was;

There is still no new information on future updates to Hero. That  
doesn't mean their won't be updates, just no new info right now.

So you might get something, then again you might not.
