But doesn't "activation over wi-fi" involve digitally signing up for/ activating some Google service? Even if I don't use it, it would seem that they're still providing it.
What happens, btw, if a G1 that is currently on a voice and a data plan goes into a complete dead zone with no wifi or 3G? Will it still get to the home screen? From what the T-Mobile rep said, "it just won't work", but I kind of got the impression she couldn't imagine anyone having any use for a phone that wasn't able to make calls or use the internet.
