What phone do you want to update? Do you have root access?
Where did you buy your phone? I expect to get Android 2.1 soon because the blog o sphere says it's coming to Verizon this week. I frequently hit the check for updates button, even though I don't expect doing so will help me. Now to answer my own questions ^_^ I want to update a Motorola Droid. I never root my devices, but I only buy devices I could root. I don't want root access because I like to target regular consumers, and they don't root their devices. I also worry about the security of my code when it is run on rooted devices. It is never OK to leak user information unexpectedly. I bought my Motorola Droid from Best Buy day 1. I plan to continue shopping at BestBuy, but I just canceled my insurance on my phone with them after having tried to use it. Verizon was very helpful though. In the end the phone I bought on day 1 was shipped back to Motorola, and Verizon sent me a replacement. I ended buying a second Motorola Droid From verizon at full list price, but I didn't have to activate it, and it still has access to the Android market. I don't know if that device will update.
