I'm guessing sometimes you don't know how nasty the genie is until you open the bottle. I know that some tax laws are pretty complex, and in the EU an number of things changed at the start of this year with further changes due in 2011, 2013, and 2015, so it's a moving target. One of the reasons AndAppStore doesn't take a cut of app sales is because doing so opens up a world of tax and administration issues which would vastly increase the costs of running the service. The thing is alternatives (like AndAppStore) do exist, and although they don't have the instant reach of Market, it's not like you have absolutely no method of selling your apps to users, you're just in a common situation where you just have to make do with what's available.
