I am posting this on engadget. I see one problem that Google will need to solve before the Android operating system becomes a true force. Google needs to figure out how to align the goals of the Cell phone company, a service based business, and the Cell phone manufacturer, a sales based business. Why should we expect a Manufacture to put time and money into updating a phone when money is to be made on new phone sales. Cell phone companies don't seem motivated to retain customers without dishing out phone subsidies simply to keep the customer happy. Apple profits on phone sales and application sales. Google seems to make money on the credit transaction. If Google split the revenue between the Developer and the cell phone manufacture, this might entice the manufacture to update phone so they can keep a steady revenue stream flowing.
