Dear Tobias, Jean-Baptiste, John and Community,

Thank you for all your comments. We do not want to violate the terms
of the Market that is why I am asking about the subject. The link sent
by Tobias regarding subscription on the market states the following:

"Currently, Android Market doesn't support subscription billing.
Please note that collecting payments through your application is not
allowed under the Android Market Developer Distribution Agreement. "

For me this means that the Market does not have a mechanism to handle
subscription billing. We have implemented our own payment system in
our app that handles subscription, so the Market does not need to do
it for us.

The relevant quote from the Market TOS:

"3.3 You may also choose to distribute Products for free. If the
Product is free, you will not be charged a Transaction Fee. You may
not collect future charges from users for copies of the Products that
those users were initially allowed to download for free. This is not
intended to prevent distribution of free trial versions of the Product
with an “upsell” option to obtain the full version of the Product:
Such free trials for Products are encouraged. However, if you want to
collect fees after the free trial expires, you must collect all fees
for the full version of the Product through the Payment Processor on
the Market. In this Agreement, “free” means there are no charges or
fees of any kind for use of the Product. All fees received by
Developers for Products distributed via the Market must be processed
by the Market’s Payment Processor."

Our plan is to give the data in our app free for a limited amount of
time and the ask the user to subscribe through Google Checkout (or ?
PayPal?) . The quote sais that if I want to collect fees for the data,
I have to do it through the Payment Processor on the Market. The
Payment Processor on the Market is Google Checkout right?

After analyzing the docs, it seems to me that such a model is ok if
we use Checkout embedded in our app, however I have to say that law is
not our strongest side (it's android development) so my conclusion may
not be accurate.

Please share your views with me.

Thanks,

Gergely
