I swapped my account back to @googlemail, made sure everything was logged out (bottom of the gmail window) and then rebooted my phone.
If this doesn't help then I'd recommend resetting the phone back to factory defaults (backup your app data) and then set it up with the @gmail.com address. Hope this helps.
