String said it. It matters some what country you're in, the Droid is CDMA, and you may want the GSM version, which goes by the Milestone IIRC. The Droid did so well partly because it came out on Verizon, I don't know how well the Milestone is doing.
Or since you mention the Incredible as the other option, I'm going to assume your deciding between 2 Verizon phones :) I prefer the Droid, because I love keys. I'm interested in the rumored Droid 2 replacement, I would like to upgrade my Droid at some point, and they really can improve the DPad. I believe the Incredible is basically the Verizon version of the Nexus 1, with some tweaks? There doesn't appear to be a thing wrong with it, but for development you can test it by leaving your Droid in Portrait :) I get annoyed myself when an application doesn't support Landscape. While we're on the subject of targeting phones, they seem to be updating this page that lists the platform versions more frequently now: http://d.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html it's been updated as of the 1st of the month. I'm assuming the Droid has a plurality of the 2.1 phones, and that the 2.2 phones will be roughly equal to the number of Nexus 1s (as soon as they are done updating and the numbers get updated). The Hero seems to be getting its 2.1 update as well, it will be great when those are all off of 1.5.
