I had scattered reports that my app "Radar Now!" didn't function correctly on the new Droid X, normally I would discount that to uninformed users but the reports were all similar "Doesn't pan when zoomed" so that worried me. I had a problem with the Nexus One in regard to panning so I thought there might be merit to the claims.
I went to my local Verizon store to see if they would let me test my app... big waste of time there, they blew me off. I certainly didn't want to buy one of these things just for testing so what could I possibly do? My answer was pretty simple. I have the ability to run location based ads and messages in my app, so I wrote one up that went like this: "Have a Droid X in the Memphis area? Please contact us." I got two responses from users in my area today and met one of them at a Starbucks nearby. Turns out there is no problem, the app works perfectly. Don't know what people were complaining about but whatever it was, it's not a malfunction. Bottom line: The users themselves may be the answer to testing on new devices. It cost me the price of a cup of coffee to test my app on the Droid X, a lot cheaper than buying one or waiting for some magical program where I get one sent to me for free. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
