I'm not so sure. I had an app that 60 percent of the users liked and the rest
hated so much that they would give me 1 or two stars. Despite the low average,
like 2.6 stars, it still managed to get downloaded by 140K people with 40%
retention rate. Had i not taken it down it would most likely be at around 200K
downloads or more.

Ah, but the problem is, the ratings and comments are probably the
single most important driver of app downloads. As a result, a few
negative comments - whether from a malicious competitor, or simply
resulting from a bug which slipped through your testing - can
seriously impact your numbers. If this happens early on, it's not
likely that you will ever reach "hundreds of thousands" of users.

Add it to the list of things Google ought to fix on the Market.
Hopefully they deal with the download & server errors first
though. :-/

Not much you can do about it. If yout app is good and downloaded by hundreds of
thousands of people hopefully it will drown out those attackers. I would not
worry about it. The other guy is probably a loser if he thinks he can beat you
like that. He may do some damage in the short term but if you continue to
improve your app the other guy will probably give up eventually and you'll have
the markey to yourself. Fight him with quality in your app and most likely you
will win. The other guy probably already lost by thinking that with his
attitude he can be succesful. He is scum so don't even think about him.

for example, if i write an app called "I" and John writes his app "J".
both apps fulfill the same functionality. John can have himself and
his friends/fans repetitively install my app, leave bad rating and
comments and uninstall my app from their phones.

how does Android Market or how can i stop such kind of malicious
attacks?

thanks a lot in advance!!
