I wrote a simple app based on their examples:
- listen for text messages
- read text message to user
- voice prompt user for: auto respond, repeat, cancel, dictate reply
- get voice response
- if they choose to dictate a reply, get that voice response, read it
back to them and ask if it should be sent: yes, no, repeat
It works pretty well for a 30 minute exercise. I can get and sent text
messages (responses) while driving without touching ANYTHING on the phone.
I also added a huge half-screen button that triggers the global voice listen
function so I can start a text message conversation, get directions, etc
without touching the phone "much". Need to figure out how to get the global
voice listen functions more handsfree...
Todo:
I just have to figure out how to look up the incoming phone # in the
contacts database so I can say who it is from (their example just reads the
phone #, but the only phone # I remember is my own!)
This simple app is 3MB+ and I read they cap you at 5MB per app.
And I'm not sure how to link in more "real code" since they don't have
everything in their library.
Still, not bad for a first go.
