When I think of the market there are probably 3 things in play. There
is me as a user buying apps, me as a developer possibly one day
selling apps and there is the job Google are doing developing the
platform.

The main reason I haven't taken a look at alternative app stores is my
perception (or maybe expectation) that the situation would be
massively fragmented. I buy stuff online from a fairly small number of
sites (maybe six) and the thought of having to bother with multiple
Android sites is off putting to me. Having taking a quick look at
your site and app I'd say the lack of a automated refund option and
the ads are small negatives for me. Since the official market and the
IPhone have refunds I kinda expected you to as well. I guess the model
you are using is contingent on both these things staying as they are
and I do like the way your not taking a massive slice of the
developers pay cheque :)

Massive tangent below :

When I look at the current market website and the list of countries
that have paid apps I wonder how much commitment Google have to people
making money from Android apart from by in app advertising and selling
phones. Do Google really want to be number one or is it mostly about
stopping Apple owning the mobile space. Why do so many of my app
downloads hang and the stats on the developer console go funky for
weeks on end. It all feels like some guy in Googles 20% project. I
seem to recall a new version of the Market website from Google IO (4
months ago) wonder what ever happened to that. Paid apps is just a
proxy for all that bad feeling. Why can a massive company not sell
apps people want to sell to people who want to buy them?
