I had similar WiFi connectivity problems with my N1 when I first received it. I bricked the old router trying to flash an update in an attempt to fix the problem. I bought a new router (a Netgear WGR614v9) and the problems went away. I run it with WPA-PSK [TKIP]. Your mileage may vary, estimates lower in California. I hope this helps.
