The statistics include the top ten devices with the most installs (for instance, over 10 percent of my installs are on the DroidX). It is fairly easy to find the particular specs of these phones on other sources (wikipedia has the specs for instance).
I don't think you will have much luck with a petition, but if it is really important to you, generate a bug request, and get a lot of people to "vote" it up.
