Customization is good, as long as the minimal feature set is present everywhere and the compatibility suite is good enough to ensure everything works. Relying on non-standard connectors, on the other hand, sucks. Either a standard USB connector should be available, or they should get together and create a new standard (if USB is missing something necessary, like a high enough charging wattage).
