I'm not sure how to get the "new groups interface"... but using the web interface that is showing up for me, not only do the message not go away, the "reported" does not stick if you leave the page and then come back. I reported one of the messages several times, each time if I leave the message and come back, or leave the page and come back, "report as spam" is an option again. Makes me think that the reporting is not working. Most likely, the result of me doing this is I'm going to get blocked as a spammer for reporting the same message more than once. :)
Even if the messages did go away though, it wouldn't stop the new ones from showing up I assume? Easy enough to filter a few addresses on a PC client, but don't think that's possible on the phone or @ mail.google.com on the web. Maybe there is a gmail option for that. I'll have to look into it.
